While I love the long summer evenings, there is just something comforting about Autumn and the shortening of days, the early sunsets and onset of darkness. The windows need to be washed and shined; the lacy curtains removed and replaced with insulated ones that can be drawn against the chill nights.
I went into the garden and dug the sweet potatoes, the foliage killed off by frost, but the tubers plump and juicy. I also pulled some beets and cut a red cabbage – Aah! Borscht, I thought! And so it was prepared with homegrown produce. A perfect Autumn meal.
