It was a fabulous day with an azure, cloudless sky. We set off for Cha Gorreana (tea plantation) for a hike through the rows of bushes and up through pine forests to the hilltop where we enjoyed expansive views of the countryside with the ocean beyond.
Onward through the mountains to Furnas and the thermal pools at Poça da dona Beija. We spent several hours relaxing in the 39 degree warm mineral waters.
Furnas – a sleepy little town with pretty Azorean townhouses lining the streets. There is a wonderful botanical garden here that we visited last time.
On the way back we made a detour through Villa Franca and the waterfront with its massive sea wall.
Note to self: when visiting during hydrangea season take this road off the road between Cha Gorreana and Furnas!
Adios! Sao Miguel!
