Hardanger Fjord and Eidefjord

  1.

The Hardangerfjord is the the second longest fjord in Norway, and fifth longest fjord in the world. Located in Vestland county in the Hardanger region the fjord stretches 179 kilometres, with depths of 900 meters, from  the Atlantic Ocean into the mountainous interior of Norway along the Hardangervidda plateau.

We were told we’d be passing under a bridge with clearance of only about one meter (3 feet) and I woke up at 5AM and in time to see us pass underneath.

We reached Eidefjord (circled on map) and spent an enjoyable day exploring the small town of only about 2,000 inhabitants. The pile of rocks is part of a Viking and Iron Age burial ground. The gamla  Kirk (old church) dates from 1309 and has an interesting history. The pulpit is from 1613.

We’ve had amazing sunsets since setting off on our voyage. This one at 11:30PM on Monday.

  1. There isn’t one bad photo. I cannot believe the beauty. You best stop showing me this level of enchantment or I will move there. I love it; at least what the photos show. Keep them coming.
