We took a 45 minute ferry ride to the northern tip of Bermuda to the charming town of St. George.
Bermuda was known to mariners as the Isle of Devils because of the many shipwrecks on the surrounding reefs. One such wreck – the Sea Venture – occurred in 1609 and led to the arrival in 1612 of the Plough and the first settlers in what is now the oldest continuously inhabited town of English origins on this side of the Atlantic.

The Church was planned to replace St. Peter’s Church, which had been badly damaged by a hurricane. Due to funding problems, parish infighting and yet another damaging storm, construction was never completed. Now the picturesque ruins are often used as a wedding venue!
We took up the offer made by a lady named Denise of a tour of the area to include visiting Clearwater Beach. What a gem she was! She said she would charge $7 per person, but after 1.5 hours of in depth information and sightseeing we paid her much more!

Loved these photos. I remember St. George. Lovely. I motorbiked all over Bermuda, often with a scuba tank between my legs. Young and really stupid back then. I still have the brass plaque that says “Cocineros” that I got of the Cristobal Colon wreck. I use to hold down napkins. I hope you do not get caught up in the storms. Keep sending pictures.
