Even gypsies like being home and settled during times of times of a global pandemic! COVID-19 has hit the United States as it has China, Iran, Italy, Spain and countless other countries.
We’ve had the luxury of being pretty much “socially distanced” since we started our trek to southern Texas – it wasn’t planned, but it’s the way we like it! Traveling together with our pup, staying independently in little houses, often eating there and sometimes eating in uncrowded restaurants – preferably outside; taking long walks on the beach or in the woods – and so it was! Things started escalating and getting a little crazy and so we decided to cut short two of our stays (in a Tennessee log cabin and in the little town of Black Mountain, North Carolina) to get home and be where we are most comfortable.
Our ride home has proven that this was the right decision. In the two days since we left Hot Springs, Arkansas restaurants are no longer open and only available for take-out, the hotels are no longer serving any kind of breakfast, supermarkets are scantily stocked, some rest areas along the way are closed.
On the road on I-81 in Virginia – beautiful countryside.
.. and a pit stop before we left Texas!
Hot Springs, Arkansas – a nice little town with the old bath houses in a row (bath house row) downtown and lovely parks and walking trails to the top of the hill where the spring water flows. We planned to take a dip but found out that the baths are taken in individual cubicles in the tubs (much like the old fashioned ones in the pictures). We prefer the open thermal pools.
Add Arkansas to the list = 15 states for the Ffly traveler!
