The border between the USA and Canada opened on August 9 for vaccinated US citizens to visit Canada. We immediately started planning a RV road trip to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. On September 9 we were the only vehicle at the crossing from Lubec to Campobello Island and we had all our COVID documentation with us and in order!!(Vaccination record and negative COVID PCR test). Phew! We breathed a sigh of relief when we were handed our passports and were free to go on our way.
We’ve stayed at Herring Cove Provincial Park many times and enjoyed exploring the small but very scenic island of Campobello.
Our first evening we witnessed a beautiful fiery sunset from Friar’s Bay looking westward to Eastport, Maine.
Ffly and Chris hiked a wet and boggy, but beautiful and scenic clifftop trail from Racoon’s Beach to Liberty Point.
Head Harbour Lightstation (East Quoddy Head Lightstation) is a must visit at low tide when it’s possible to take several steep steps down the side of the rocks crossing the ocean bed and up more stairs to the tiny island ships navigate this section of the Bay of Fundy with its extremely high tides (23 feet), treacherous rocks surrounding the island and frequent fog.
A crystal clear view across the narrows to Lubec, Maine.
While waiting for the ferry we spent an hour or so on the extremely beautifully maintained boardwalks through Eagle Hill Bog.
The pitcher plant acts as a compost maker for the bog by catching insects which when decomposed provide nutrients for the bog.
