Our day started by crossing the Glen Canyon dam at Lake Powell – just a few miles from our campsite.
We drove southwards through mountains on Rte 89 to descend and make a sharp turn and drive north in the valley on Rte 89A. First stop was Navajo Bridge at the entrance to Marble Canyon.
We took a side route to Lees Ferry – a lovely spot on the Paria River where rafts and other small vessels launch. Ffly took advantage of the beach and shallow water for a much needed dip/bath.
Back onto 89A we continued north toward Vermillion Cliffs. We saw amazing red rock cliffs on the side, but didn’t accept that they were the actual Vermillion Cliffs. The map showed a minor aka dirt road cutting across which would make a loop out of our trip. I estimated it to be about 30 miles and we went for it! We are driving a Jeep after all!!!
We found the Vermillion Cliffs which made the others we saw pale in comparison! We also found hiking trail the wound up the side of a cliff and then across a beautiful sage greenery filled valley to a bunching of rocks with petroglyphs. There was nobody in sight, Ffly could run free and the air was a perfect temperature.
As we continued our drive we saw rocks that resembled an artist’s palette.
Back at Lake Powell and just a few more shots of this incredibly beautiful landscape.
Dinner at Fiesta’s!
