Today we took a short, 30 minute, drive north of the city to the quaint waterside towns of Volendam and Edam (yes – where the cheese came from!)
The lanes and waterfront of Volendam are very picturesque and it is quite a tourist destination, but on this early March Monday it was just us and the locals!
Edam is another delightful little town just 3 km from Volendam and with more canals and pretty little houses.
We had a nice lunch sitting on the patio overlooking the Markermeer.
