We took several road trips this past week. The first one to Hawthorne, FL (south of Gainesville) to meet up with old friends, Lorraine and Gene, at The Yearling restaurant. The restaurant is known throughout northern Florida and has become a Florida landmark. Established in 1952 they specialize in “food rural Floridians have hunted, fished and prepared for generations.” It is on a back road with the ubiquitous live oak trees draped with spanish moss, tall pines and swamplands. Entering the restaurant one is taken back in time with walls lined with bookshelves and old photos and posters.
We each had one of their specialties – alligator and venison.
Our second road trip took us on the ferry across the St. Johns River to Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach to the Farmers Market and a visit to Fort Clinch State Park. It has long been a favorite of mine with its charming historic downtown district.
Meanwhile, back at the RV park we moved from the front row to a very nice site in the back row BUT we still have water views and can continue to watch the maritime movement. Our daily trips to the vast and virtually empty beach provide plenty of exercise for Ffly.
