We left Bucharest early for the drive to Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The border crossing was a breeze and we arrived in Veliko Tarnovo, the ‘City of the Tsars’, where houses cling to the cliffs of the River Yantra, making it a very picturesque little town.
We walked through the lovely shopping/crafts street with beautiful potters, weavers, silversmiths and more.
The reconstructed medieval fortress dominates the hillside and is a beloved monument that depicts the strength and might of the Bulgarian forces.
After exploring of the quaint village of Arbanassi, we were treated to a special surprise at the 17th-century church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel. While we sat on the very uncomfortable seats surrounded by frescoes we listened to the beautiful singing of the four-man choir.
All I can say is W O W! I am so amazed by you and Dennis and your travels. The world through the Uricks’ eyes. Wonderful and thank you.
Very good singing. Joy and peace to all.
This is one of the most interesting cities I’ve seen. Love the creatives and all the beautiful forms of artistic expression.
