We left the Amazon rain forest, passing through the “cloud forest” to the highlands again. Our lunch stop was San Isidro lodge – a birder’s paradise – where the hummingbirds thronged and drank the sugar water containers dry.
Trying to capture them on camera was a minor feat, but fellow-traveler, Michael, had a tripod and mega lens with which one can see their individual feathers!
We continued climbing high into the Andes to arrive in Quito, a sprawling city of almost 3 million at the base of Pichincha volcano.
The view from our hotel room.
The hummingbirds and the Uricks are incredible travelers.
