So – we are here in Stellenbosch – in the heart of the Cape’s wine growing area. Today was the day to tour the area and try some (more) wines! but first a walk around town and through the Botanical Gardens.
Maybe we mis-planned by being here over a weekend when many from Cape Town and surrounding areas clearly come to this area to enjoy these same pleasures; and, obviously, we hadn’t planned ahead and booked ourselves a lunch or picnic basket! However, we stopped in at a couple of recommended places – Boschendal had a wine and food festival going on and was crawling with people; and Babylonstoren was booked up! We had planned a stop at Warwick winery, and even though we couldn’t get a picnic box, we were able to over indulge on a platter! I’m kind of glad we couldn’t get the picnic box!!! After a tasting of six wines, some of them award winning, we enjoyed a bottle of Warwick Dry Rose with our platter!
Platter consisted: semi-dried thin-sliced beef, five different cheeses, tapenade of olives and sun-dried tomatoes, spicy ginger chutney, onion marmalade, pretzel bread, mushroom and anchovy butter.
