Lucerne

A beautiful day in Lucerne! We took the train from Stansstad, where we’re staying, for the short and convenient ride and happy not having to hassle with finding parking.

The station is right in town and everything is very walkable in this compact and beautifully preserved medieval town. Lake Lucerne stretches like a fjord with mountains rising from the lake.

The covered Kapellenbruecke, built in 1333 crosses the Reuss River and connects the old town to the right bank part of the city..

Border Collie sighting!

We took a boat ride on one of the boats that stops at numerous towns on the lake. Many of the towns have cog railways to summits, but because the clouds were still hanging over the mountains we didn’t bother. We disembarked in Weggis, a small town – wandered around on the lakefront and then caught another boat back to Lucerne. It was beautiful.

View from our room this evening. The church bells have been chiming for 30 minutes after the announcement that a new Pope has been selected – Leo XIV!

Dinner – traditional Rosti with grilled asparagus and Gorgonzola! And this beautiful Swiss rose wine.
