Manta was a bustling town with a lively waterfront – fishermen hauling shark, tuna and other fish from their small vessels onto trucks and probably off to market or fish processing plant, and a lovely artisan market in the town square – both were great photo ops!

Manta lies just south of the equator and is one of the country’s largest ports and most populous and important cities.
While there, we took a cab to Montecristi, a lovely colonial town about 20 km. from Manta and where panama hats are made.
Between Manta and Montecristi is the Ecuador’s legislative government building (the judicial side is in Quito). A strange juxtaposition between traditional and modern.
