Christ the Redeemer Statue

The Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, was designed by priest Pedro Mario to mark Brazil’s 100th anniversary of independence from Portugal. Construction began in 1922 with clay pieces from France. The statue is made of soapstone and concrete, and is the largest statue ever built using Art Deco design. The statue is 30 meters high, mounted on an 8 meter pedestal, and sits atop the 700 meter high. It is HUGE!!!!
