Last year while in Mexico I enjoyed eating Nopal – grilled prickly pear cactus (Opuntia). Nopal comes from the Nahuati word nohpalli which means “pads”. The flavor is like a combination of green pepper, asparagus and green bean.
I found some while shopping at an hispanic food store in Mesa (Los Altos Ranch Market), and rather than purchase the “cleaned” ones, decided to do it myself like I saw the ladies in the market in San Miguel.
