Zadar

Today we left Split with trusty #37 bus to Split airport – which is actually closer to Trogir. Anyway, there we picked up our rental car – another Renault Captur – like we had in Switzerland. A zippy little SUV which is an upgrade over the smaller car we reserved. By the way, the airport (similar to Zagreb) is a very modern looking affair with tunnels and lots of tubes and glass.

Off we went through the countryside with lots of olive groves and magnificent views of the blue sea and islands.

Our Hotel Delfin is just north of the old town and right on the water. Great location with parking and bus stop right outside the door. (1.60 a ride).

We had heard rumors about the connection of cravats (modern day ties) and Croatia and discovered the truth to it in a beautiful silk tie and scarf shop in Zadar.

This little festival was happening which was fun and we had our dinner there.

These delicious strawberries!

We strolled down to the waterfront to see if the Sea Organ was a real thing. It is! It is an architectural object designed by Nikola Basic as part of a project to restore the old town waterfront. They are designed as a group of pipes that run under large marble stairs, and the sea waves create air pressure that produces random but fairly harmoniously arranged tones in the pipes. It sounds a little bit like whales!

Sharing someone else’s YouTube because the people around me wouldn’t shut up!!!

Check out the sounds.

Zadar’s Cathedral of St Anastasia was built in the 12thand 13th centuries, upon an older building from the 9th and 11th centuries.
