Gaspé Peninsula to Dalhousie

The 600km or so drive on Rte 132 took us alongside the St. Lawrence seaway to the Atlantic and Gaspé peninsula. Long before we reached the mouth of the river we were unable to see the other side – it was like looking at an ocean.

Rte 132 along the St. Lawrence

Our timing for this trip was not perfect as Tropical Storm Lee was approaching Nova Scotia and would be bringing heavy rain to this part of Quebec also. it started raining as we approached Percé for our overnight at Hotel Nordet. We had a lovely ocean view room, but not much visibility with the rain. However, after 24-hours the storm passed through and the skies cleared.

The small town of Gaspé is lovely and we had a delicious lunch at Cafe Des Artistes and a stroll along the small shopping/eatery street.

We continued viewing staggering cliffs and churning seas on the coastal drive on Rte 132 heading west.

From a distance- Percé rocks

The village of Percé is a very attractive low key tourist destination where we could view the rocks from a nearby bluff and also watch whales (maybe about 5 of them) rolling around and we think probably feeding.

A “colony” or “raft” of puffins. They only have the orange finery during mating season! And live at sea except for the nesting period.

We arrived at our little cabin in Charlo, NB just as it was getting dark.

  1. It truly is wonderful how you always put Ffly first, making sure your accommodations fit her needs and preferences. Run, mom, run. Another beautiful town, and at a very exciting time with “Lee” barreling your way. Lots of downed trees, branches and debrie here. Power out for several hours, however, I do have a generator that keeps most of the house in power. Had my candles ready, though. See you soon.
