A small slice of the Blue Grass State

It is so wonderful to be back amongst lush greenery and flowering trees;  Kentucky has an abundance of both. We spent one night at Camp Colson campground (Fort Knox) and then continued onwards to the Kentucky Horse Park between Lexington and Georgetown.

I’m loving these strange names in this part of the country.

The Arboretum at the University of Kentucky is well worth a visit and has wonderful walking paths and trails. The dogwood were in full bloom, but many of the other flowering trees are now leafed out.

We’ve stayed at the Kentucky Horse Park campground before and loved it then as we do this time around. We arrived on Sunday at the end of an event here at the park and were told that the place had been full! We prefer it as it is now with plenty of space between each camper. The assortment of rigs is quite entertaining. I love the live-aboard horse trailers.

A beautiful full moon and sunset on April 26th.

We love driving the narrow country roads in this area and seeing the pristine horse farms with immaculately mowed grass. Horses grazing in their double fenced enclosures (for safety especially on road sides). Lovely barns and beautiful homes dot the landscape, and orderly stone walls line the roadway.

Some of the horse farms have amazing entry ways and gates.

To round out our little road trip we stopped at Red State BBQ for a late lunch that’ll last us until bed time!!!
