Greek Islands – 1980!

I just found these photos of our backpacking trip in the Greek islands in 1980! Kos, Patmos and Samos.

We travelled between the islands on ferries and mostly stayed in rooms rented out by locals for about $7 per night! Only on Samos could we use our little tent.

We met Nicki and her partner (name forgotten) on the tiny ferry (just the four of us on it) between Patmos and Samos. They knew cafe and vineyard owner Cretan where we drank copious amounts of retsina and other wine, danced and crawled down the road to our tent!

  1. Oh, what great memories! Being free as a butterfly and able to adapt to everything is the best. Though not the Greek Isles, I took Megan and Patrick on a month-long vagabond tent-camping tour of Nova Scotia and Cape Breton. Patrick was in second grade and Meg was in fourth grade and they still tell their friends it was the best trip of their lives. I can feel your excitement at discovering these photos and remembering those feelings. I share your joy.
